The North Yorkshire hamlet of Wormald Green lies between Ripon and Harrogate close to the busy A61. The hamlet is made up of rebuilt farm houses and rural dwellings. On 1st June 1848 the railway came to Wormald Green and a few years afterwards the hamlet held its own steeplechases. The ‘County History of Yorkshire’ recorded that steeplechase meetings began being held in many parts of the county, with 3 events normally forming the racecard. There was certainly a meeting at Wormald Green in the 1860s, although actual details are scarce. |
